DTF Pressing Instructions
Follow these instructions carefully to get the best results from your DTF transfers from MarLoDesignCo. LLC. Correct pressing ensures long-lasting color, soft feel, and maximum durability.
Before You Begin
✔ What You Need
-
Heat press (recommended – not a household iron)
-
Fresh parchment paper or Teflon sheet
-
Lint roller
-
Clean, flat pressing surface
✔ Important Notes
-
Do NOT mirror your artwork — your transfers already arrive mirrored for pressing.
-
Keep humidity low and make sure your press reaches accurate temperature.
-
Always test press on a sample garment if you're new to DTF.
Step-by-Step Pressing Instructions
1. Prepare the Garment
-
Lay the garment flat on the heat press.
-
Use a lint roller to remove dust, lint, or fibers.
-
Pre-press the garment for 10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
This helps the adhesive bond smoothly.
2. Trim Your Transfer
-
Trim off the color bar and label strip (they will press onto your garment if not removed).
-
Cut excess film around your designs as close as possible for a clean edge.
3. Pressing Settings
For Cotton & Cotton Blends
-
Temperature: 285–290°F
-
Time: 12–15 seconds
-
Pressure: Heavy
-
Peel: Cold peel – allow transfer to cool fully before removing film
For Polyester & Nylon
-
Temperature: 265–275°F
-
Time: 12 seconds
-
Pressure: Heavy
-
Peel: Cold peel
Tip: Avoid excessive heat on 100% polyester to prevent scorching or shine marks.
4. Cold Peel the Transfer
-
Let the transfer cool completely.
-
Start peeling slowly from one corner at a low angle.
If the design lifts, lay it back down and press again for 2–3 seconds.
5. Final Repress (Very Important)
Place parchment paper or Teflon on top and repress for:
-
5 seconds for a matte finish
-
8–10 seconds for a softer feel and stronger bond
This final press seals the adhesive and improves wash durability.
Wash & Care Instructions
To extend the life of your DTF printed apparel:
-
Turn garment inside out
-
Machine wash cold
-
Avoid bleach and harsh detergents
-
Tumble dry low or hang dry
-
Do not iron directly on the print
With proper care, DTF prints maintain color vibrancy, stretch, and durability over dozens of washes.
